This year Cornwall has seen the wettest spring since 1910! Yet somehow the shoddy weather has failed to stop tens of thousands of Cornish Holiday makers flocking to our Cornish shores; this year especially with the Olympic torch making its UK maiden voyage through Cornwall. Starting at Land’s End it has attracted over 10,000 Cornish Holiday makers over the weekend and local business in Cornwall such as self-catering holiday homes, B&b’s and Hotels believe that the positive affect the Torch has had on the tourism industry in Cornwall will continue throughout the rest of the summer.

Also something that will help the self-catering holiday home industry in Cornwall this year is the fact that we have a lot of Public holidays coming up over the summer period. There is a double bank holiday in June, not forgetting that fact that’s there a half term holiday as well. And how can you forget the busiest time of year being when the schools brake up for the summer in the middle of July!

The holiday home rental UK market is by far the busiest at this time of year! People that own Self-catering holiday homes and Businesses will find this the most profitable time of year as well. Also, with it being the Queens Dubilee at the beginning of June, this will drive the locals out into Cornwall to celebrate – so it will not necessarily create new tourism sales but will sustain existing local profit. Self-catering holiday home owners can expect a busy summer this year as well with the Olympics bringing a lot of tourist from all over the world to our shores. This will in turn drive people that live in other areas of England to stay in UK for their holidays this year. The general feeling is also that Self-catering holiday homes and B&B’s will have their usual buzz this year due to the annual festivals and events that are going on in Cornwall during the Summer. Obviously the first being the Olympic torch coming through Cornwall driving the initial push of Cornish Holiday makers ready for the summer.

The next big event being the Queens Dubilee in June. Other important events like Fowey Regatta and the famous SAS ball; leading up to the classic Eden Sessions all the way through to Relentless Boardmasters in August! Cornwall is full of fun filled activities for all of the family whether it’s a day trip to Helston Flora or a weekend spent at a festival. So if you’re looking for a no fuss self-catering cottage holiday or something similar then come down to Cornwall and enjoy with thousands of others.

Falmouth Beach Resort Hotel is one of many welcoming and beautiful hotels in Cornwall. For Cornish Holiday makers who decide that a self-catering cottage holiday is not for them, there are many non-self-catering holiday home options for them to choose from. Out the 250 hotels there are in Cornwall, 40 of these are actually in the fishing town of Falmouth. Home to the famous Tall Ships and annual Finn festival that attracts thousands of Cornish holiday makers year after year. But one of the most famous Hotels out of all of these, and a name that heard a lot recently in the media is The Falmouth Beach Resort Hotel. The Falmouth Beach resort Hotel is a 3 Star AA recommended Hotel set right on the water front of Gyllynvase beach in Falmouth – starting point for the annual Race for Life charity event and popular spot for locals and tourist alike because of Gylly beach café; a luxury café set right on the beach!

Opened by the Evans family in 1984, The Hotel has become a top Cornish holiday destination among tourists seeking that little bit of luxury in a prime location. One of the main aspects of the hotel that have gained it its superiority above others in Falmouth is its professional yet homely approach to its customer service.

Unfortunately horror struck when a fire broke out in the hotel on April 30th this year! Due to the unforeseen high winds and weather the fire spread rather quickly across the whole top half of the hotel consuming everything in its path. Fire fighters battled the blaze for hours with not much success. The cause of the fire has not yet been completely confirmed but it is believed that it began due some maintenance taking place on the roof of the hotel! Luckily no one was injured or caught in the disaster which destroyed this Cornish holiday destination.

How may it affect tourism in the area? Obviously the Hotel itself had to be closed and will miss out on the busy tourist schedule, especially seems the Olympic torch had been taken straight passed it. A lot of upset but sympathetic Holiday makers had to find last minute accommodation elsewhere due to this shocking event! So in terms of other Hotels in the area being affected I feel they will only gain where the Falmouth Beach hotel has lost: unfortunately.

Being a Local family and in a close community, the Evans family have had a lot of support in the time of need and hope to reopen the hotel as soon as possible, and are truly greatful for all the support they have received.
